Horseback riding may seem like a challenge when you are first starting, but it is really good fun, here are a few tips to help you get started.

1. Horseback riding a beginners is really exciting, but it can be dangerous if you do not have a good instructor so make sure your instructor is qualified. In the USA this means they should be certified by the American Riding Instructors Association and in the United Kingdom by the British Horse Society or the Association of British Riding Schools.

2.Control of your emotions is important when you're riding a horse, you should always be calm and relaxed, your horse will be able to sense how you feel and if you are lacking in confidence the horse will lack confidence in you as a rider. Don't forget the horse doesn't know that you don't know, so if necessary just act as though you know what you're doing.

3. Your horse will respond best to a firm that loving hand, nobody likes to shouted at or pushed around and this goes for horses as well as people.

4. Decide which style of horse riding you wish to learn, i.e. English or Western style. Your choice will also depend on what styles your local riding school teachers, if you do have a choice most people find the Western style saddle provide better support when they are first starting. Because it is thought that the English style of riding helps pupils to develop a better balance some Riding instructors prefer this style.

Think about the clothes you're going to wear when horseback riding for beginners, when you first start you are better off just using some old casual clothes, it's important that the pants have legs in them i.e. a pair of jeans or something similar. The one thing you must avoid is riding a horse while wearing shorts, unless you want to run both inside of your legs raw! Horse riding clothes can be quite expensive so it is best to wait until a certain that this is something you really want to do before you go out and spend a lot of money on specialised clothing. The one thing that you should think about buying as soon as possible is a good pair of riding boots, also you must wear a safety helmet but I'm certain that your riding school will provide one.

6. When you first begin and are lacking experience make sure your riding school provide you with an experienced horse that will help you to learn quickly. Once you become a little bit more experienced and you develop some confidence you are both tried different horses and see how they feel.

Obviously you can only learn to ride by actually getting on a horse and been taught by a qualified instructor, but you can save a lot of time by watching a few videos or reading books on how to ride a horse.
